Lunch, or an American lunch? I've seen the portions most Americans eat and it aint small. There's a Chinese near me at Uni that does a lunch set menu for the equivelant of that, bout £3, but the serving isn't as large as the usual portions at night.
All the takeaways I know cost pretty similar tbh, about £4-5 at night for your main dish, £3 for any side orders other than chips or prawn crackers.
