| The other day a kid in the day care I work at said she wanted to sing when she grows up. I asked her what kind of music she likes, and she replied that she enjoys pop and country. I asked what singers she liked, and she told me all the pop ones. I asked her what country ones she liked, and she told me she likes Toby Keith, some people whose names I don't remember and that she used to like the Dixie Chicks before 'they said mean things to the President.'
She's too young to grasp the complexities of the issue, so she decides she doesn't like their music because of their politics rather than deciding she doesn't want to support them because of their politics. It's a difference kids can't understand, and I believe it's irresponsible of parents to expose their kids to it before they're ready.
If only I could saith, so should I. |
