Quote by: IndieC God said they could, did not say they should, so where is your point? Times have changed, and it is no longer socially acceptable, so although they have been given the right to have slaves by God, they do not have slaves because it is now considered to be wrong by society.
As for Christians, they follow the teachings of Christ, who never said Christians could have slaves, but rather that everyone can be a son of God, and that God looks upon everyone in the same way. Otherwise, Gentiles would not have been converted. This way, he teaches that all men and women are equal before God, and God loves them all. Therefore none is lower than you, and you must respect everyone as you wish to be respected. Something some Christians (names will not be mentioned) have trouble dealing with. |
Interesting argument, but who decides right or wrong, God or society? God said, ONLY HEBREWS COULD NOT BE SLAVES. I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THAT. NOT ACCORDING TO THE OLD TESTAMENTS CAN WE ALL BE SONS OF GOD, ONLY HEBREWS ARE SPECIAL TO GOD ACCORDING TO THE OLD TESTAMENT. IT IS EXACTLY THIS BELIEF IN A GOD WHO HAS FAVORITES THAT IS WHAT IS BEHIND SO MANY OF THE WRONGS OF TODAY. Excuse me, I don't think Christians are any more favored by a God than religious myth says the Hebrews are special to God. You want you want to deny the Hebrews hold this special relationship, and claim it for yourself . So do the Muslims. I want to avoid the wars of this religious conflict, and don't believe anyone is "special" to God. When Jefferson used the word "Creator" in the Declaration of Independence, he was using a native American concept and trying to get us away from the religious wars that kept Europe torn apart and lead to superstitious witch hunts and repressed science. How about a God with no favorite people?
