The Chinese movable type machine was nowhere near as usefull as Gutenberg's printing press. The Chinese pictoral written language was too ungainly to ever be used in widespread text.
Furthermore, because the Chinese were such a closedminded racist bunch, they got left in the techonlogical dust, blowing their sizable edge on the west. Screw them and their "we own the whole world" attitude.
