From out of the blue this idea came to me that our government should issue grants so that scientists can invent new computerized license plates for automobles. These would be installed by car makers are part of each new car made ( no more mailing metal plates via the mail - which crooks and remove of change).
We would have this national DMV department and all plates would be hooked into their central computer by satellite. That way each plate could be updated by computer as soon as the license fee is paid, that could be done on line to avoid long lines at city DMV offices. Each plate would have a set of colored lights that could be activated for different reasons with flashing lights so that the police could notice them quickly. Activated via satellite from any authorized police source. A light for stolen vechiles, for Amber Alerts, for warrents, for possible crime suspects, etc. Thus the car could be easly spotted by patorl police or by other dirvers who can call in the information on cell phones to the police. Rental cars would also have tracking devices so the Homeland Security department could monitor of where-abouts of people of interest visiting here from forien countries.
Such technology I think is very possible and cost effective concidering how it would speed-up the process of capturing criminals and by saving all the work it now takes to issue plates.
