Stop speaking from ignorance. Animals can be a whole lot smarter than many people. I have been reading about animals studies on fairness that illustrate this very nicely. It appears that many animals understand the concept of fairness and even moral indignation. There was a monkey study where they trained the monkeys to perform a task for a reward. They gave each monkey a different quantity of reward when they performed the same task correctly. When the monkeys didn't know what each monkey was getting they all performed the tasks willingly. After some time they allowed the monkeys to see what each was getting for the same task. The monkeys that were getting the highest rewards kept on doing the task. The monkeys that got much less of a reward had various reactions from refusing to perform the task to complaining when ask to perform the task. One monkey did the task and then looked the researcher right in the eye and then walked off leaving the reward. There was another study done with caching birds that illustrated a similar sense of social fairness. Do not tell me that animals are not intelligent. Many have much more sense than many people I know, including you. You see unlike you they know a raw deal when they see it and they are able to figure it out long before it becomes the extortion of the offer you can’t refuse.
