If that is what you meant, then "estimated" would be a better word to use, it would have carried the same meaning without the connotation that you are skeptical of that figure. It further gained that meaning when juxtaposed with your other number of 100 million deaths caused by Communists in the same sentence, which was not qualified at all and therefore connoted accuracy.

I was merely questioning why you would phrase that sentence in a way which I read as you questioning the magnitude of the Holocaust. In my debates with real Holocaust "revisionists," they have often used that exact phrasing ("supposed 6 million") to begin their argument (in an underhanded way). Obviously you aren't one of them, but you could have avoided the suggestion by choosing your words more carefully.
