For all of history man has celebrated the Winter solstice and the Vernal Equinox. Religious holidays tend to cluster around these astronomical events for good and simple reasons. The Christians co-opted the holiday dates of other religions. Not a lot of mystery to it.

On an only slightly tangential topic, I understand that at the White House Easter Egg Hunt, no eggs were found. The President, however, expressed confidence that eggs would at some point be discovered.
