The only missing ingredient for the soup of life on Mars is liquid water. If under the frozen oceans on Mars there exist hot spots, either thermal vents, tectonic plate pressure or just deep enough trenches to use the planets heat, then I think life in some form may be found.

Methane currently is coming from somewhere and liquid water did exist on the surface previously.

I await the day when life of any form is found off this life-bearing rock. (I want the ultra-religious to explain that one).
