| Speaking as someone currently studying Biochem and Microbiology as Uni, I'd say we're going to get further problems if the animal rearing traditionals don't change in China. One example is the avian flu, in China the pigs and chickens can be kept in close proximity, close enough for Pigs to be infected by Avian flu and to contract Human flu, now if an avian flu and human flu infected the same pig cell, then their DNA and protein coating were mixed we could get a completely new flu virus to which we have no vaccine nor natural immunity to, it may have happened in the past (explains how flu epidemics in the past occured out of the blue) and it can happen again. |
